The summertime is the perfect opportunity for both you and your four-legged friend to spend time together. However, you want to make sure you're keeping them safe along the way. Here are some fun-filled and celebratory events to participate in this summer and safety tips to keep your dog happy.

1. Take Your Dog to Work Day June 20th-24th

Since 1999, "Take Your Dog to Work Day" has given pet owners a chance to bring their dogs to work with them and has now morphed into "Take Your Dog to Work Week". It's the perfect excuse to spend time with your furry friend while networking or sharing the joy of the stress-free happiness dogs can bring with your co-workers. Ensure dog safety by pet-proofing your workspace before you bring Fido or Fancy along. Move cables and cords out of the way, remove harmful plants and human food out of reach. Also, keep an eye on your pup and don't forget to pack healthy dog treats, dog beds and interactive dog toys to keep them occupied.

2. National Pet Fire Safety Day July 15th

Keeping your pet safe from a fire means making sure you have a plan. Practice with your pup by spending the day showing them a simple escape route. Take precautions and forgo the flames by opting for flameless candles. Prevent outdoor fires by using ceramic or stainless steel bowls for water instead of glass ones when placing them on wooden decks.

3. National Dog Day August 26th

There are a variety of ways you can celebrate National Dog Day with your furry friend, including taking your pup to get pampered at the groomers. You can also set up a doggie photo shoot with swoon-worthy pet fashionable faves, such as dog formal wear and designer collars and even funny dog costumes. If you're lucky to be near a coast, consider spending the day at the beach with your dog. Make sure you check that the beach allows dogs and pack dog harnesses and leashes, a water bottle and dog toys to keep your four-legged friend entertained and safe. You can also try heading to a Dog Beach near you.

Final Thoughts

There are tons of things to do beyond the lazy, "dog days of summer" thanks to all of the summertime dog-themed events and holidays. Whether you choose to hit the beach or just have a fun day at the dog park, remember to keep safety in mind. Don't forget to pack dog harnesses or a leash, food, water, dog toys and treats to keep your furry friend hydrated and safe.
